Inghams is one of the Fylde Coast’s leading firms of solicitors and has been serving the local community for over 70 years.

Local roots

The firm was founded in 1937 when Charles Ingham first opened an office on Talbot Road in Blackpool.  The business later moved to Topping Street and then Leopold Grove, where the Blackpool office remains today.

The growth of the practice was interrupted only by the Second World War when Charles Ingham joined the army, rising to the rank of major and taking part in the North African and Italian campaigns.

After the war the practice expanded with the addition of a young royal artillery captain, Walter Clegg, who had qualified as a solicitor by a correspondence course conducted from a German prisoner of war camp.  Walter, who was later knighted after many years service as an MP for North Fylde, opened the Fleetwood branch in the early 1950’s on North Albert Street, where it still exists today.

John Crowther, who had been a fighter pilot in the war and who, like Sir Walter, had been captured by the Germans, then also joined the partnership.

A growing business

As Ingham, Clegg and Crowther, the firm saw rapid growth throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s into a large and broadly based legal practice.

In 2000 a new look for the new millennium was introduced and the firm name shortened to Inghams in tribute to its founder, Charles Ingham.

Today Inghams has 8 partners and consultants and 60 staff across 5 offices in Blackpool, Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Bispham, and Poulton.

Inghams has specialists in many areas of the law including property, family, probate and wills planning, personal injury, general litigation and commercial.  In fact, all of the services you would expect from a high street legal practice.

Inghams can offer public funding at several of its branches and a “no win, no fee” arrangement for accidents and other types of legal disputes.  At the Blackpool and Fleetwood branches a free, weekly legal clinic also takes place, where preliminary advice can be obtained without charge on a whole range of legal matters.
